About StrongHands

StrongHands (ticker SHND) is a cryptocurrency that combines Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake. It was announced on Bitcointalk on 28 September 2015 and has been carried forward by its community since.

What it is

According to the project repository, StrongHands is a Peercoin-based, openly forked cryptocurrency with a combined Proof-of-Stake / Proof-of-Work minting system. Its name carries its message: loyalty, holding on, strong hands.

Origins in 2015

The original announcement presented a hybrid PoW/PoS coin with SHA256D mining, 2.5-minute blocks and the motto shown below. The project was later taken over by its community; see the timeline.

Community-driven development

In January 2018 a community take-over thread was opened on Bitcointalk, and the project is maintained in the open: the source code and wallet releases are public on GitHub.

Philosophy

Loyalty and persistence. Miners and stakers who stay for the long run are the heart of the network, and the project belongs to the people who keep it running.

Not to be confused: StrongHands (SHND) is a separate project from StrongHands Masternode (SHMN) and StrongHands Finance (iSHND). This website is only about SHND.

Historical information is labelled as such on this page. Technical figures come from the source code or the project’s Bitcointalk thread, and are linked to their source.

The Motto · モットー

The message of StrongHands is about loyalty.

English

The entire cryptocurrency community suffer from one ailment. The ailment of disloyalty. It’s the cancer that is eating away at our very survival. This coin solves that problem. If you got them weak hands, this coin aint for you. If you can go the distance crank up them miners and get to work!

Mining & Staking

SHND is secured by two mechanisms at the same time: Proof-of-Work mining and Proof-of-Stake. Everything below is taken from the source code (see the Technology table).

Mining (Proof-of-Work)

  • The mining algorithm is SHA256D.
  • A Proof-of-Work block pays 1,800 SHND, with a 2.5-minute target block time.
  • Mined coins can be spent after 100 blocks.
  • Difficulty adjusts toward a 36-hour target timespan.

Staking (Proof-of-Stake)

  • Coins must be at least 29 days old before they can stake; their weight is fully counted at 120 days.
  • A Proof-of-Stake block pays 2,540 SHND.
  • As with other Peercoin-based coins, staking needs a synchronized wallet that stays online and unlocked.
  • Staked coins mature after 100 blocks.

How to take part

  1. Download the wallet from the official release page and let it synchronize with the network (default port 29001).
  2. To stake, keep your coins in the wallet and keep it running. To mine, connect your mining software or pool to a synchronized node, following the repository documentation.
  3. Read the repository README and the documentation folder, and look at the source code.

Rewards are defined by the network rules above. Nothing on this page promises profit, income or a guaranteed reward.
